Hampidjan DynIce Torsional Furling Rope (m)
Hampidjan DynIce Torsional Furling Rope is a high-strength rope for top-down and bottom-up sail furling systems. Its torsional construction transfers rotation from the furling drum towards the head of the sail, helping the sail furl progressively and reliably.
The rope incorporates a heat-set and stretched DynIce strength member made from Dyneema® SK75 fibre. Its specially engineered construction combines torsional resistance with high tensile strength, low weight and low elongation.
Suitable applications include Code sails, asymmetric spinnakers, gennakers and other free-flying headsails on smaller and medium-sized yachts.

This product is supplied as an unfinished cut length of torsional furling rope. The quantity selected is the total number of metres supplied.
Thimbles, clamps and other termination components are not included unless stated separately. The customer is responsible for forming and securing both end terminations.
This is a DIY torsional rope product, not a custom-made furling cable supplied at a finished working length.

*Linear and spliced strengths are manufacturer-published breaking-strength values, not safe working loads. The strength of the finished assembly depends on the termination method, fittings, installation and condition of every component.
Recommended rope diameter
Select the diameter according to the required finished working length and the furling configuration.

Where more than one diameter is suitable:
- For top-down furling, select the largest suitable diameter to maximise torsional performance.
- For bottom-up furling, select the smallest suitable diameter for the required length.
Torsional furling rope is not recommended for top-down installations exceeding 16.5 m or bottom-up installations exceeding 19 m. Seek specialist advice for installations outside these limits.
These recommendations are based principally on rope length and furling configuration. Sail area, sail type, anticipated loads, yacht characteristics and the furling system manufacturer’s requirements must also be considered.
Allowance for termination
The cut length ordered must be longer than the required finished working length. Additional rope is needed at each end to pass around the thimble and through the termination clamps.

Length to order = required finished length + allowance for both ends
For example, an 11 mm rope with a required finished length of 12 m needs an allowance of 550 mm at each end:
12.0 m + 0.55 m + 0.55 m = 13.1 m minimum order length
The exact allowance may vary with the selected thimbles and clamps. Check the termination manufacturer’s requirements before ordering or cutting the rope.
Important termination and installation information
- Use only purpose-designed torsional rope clamps and thimbles compatible with Hampidjan DynIce and the selected rope diameter.
- The termination components must be capable of resisting both axial loading and the torsional forces generated during furling.
- General-purpose rope clamps, hose clamps and improvised fasteners are not suitable.
- Follow the termination manufacturer’s instructions, including the specified fastener-tightening sequence and torque settings.
- Check that the completed termination is compatible with the furling unit’s jaw width and pin diameter.
- Form and measure the first termination before making the final cut for the second end.
- Do not assume that the cut length ordered will equal the finished working length.
- Published breaking strengths must not be treated as safe working loads. The safe capacity of the finished assembly is determined by its weakest component.
- Incorrect termination can substantially reduce strength and may result in equipment damage or loss of the sail.
- If you are uncertain about rope selection, compatibility or termination, consult the sailmaker, furling-system manufacturer or a suitably qualified professional rigger.
- Inspect the rope and its terminations regularly for movement, abrasion, cover damage, distortion or loose fasteners. Do not use a damaged or incorrectly terminated assembly.
