The Tylaska LT80 Light Air Snap Shackle is an ultra-lightweight, non-marking trigger snap shackle designed specifically for low-load applications and light wind sailing. Weighing just 21g and matching the size of Tylaska’s T8 Snap Shackle, it is an ideal choice when reducing weight in your running rigging helps maximise light-air performance.
Based on the proven geometry of Tylaska’s renowned T8 Trigger Snap Shackle, the LT80 reformats this trusted design into a lightweight Delrin construction. The result is a robust, corrosion-free shackle that retains the smooth, flowing curves of the original design, helping to minimise the risk of fouling or snagging on sails and other rigging.
As the name suggests, the LT80 is purpose-built for light air spinnaker sheets, where every gram counts. On drifting days, reducing the weight attached to the clew helps the spinnaker fill more easily and remain flying in marginal conditions, keeping the yacht moving when there is very little breeze.
Despite its lightweight construction, the LT80 retains the practical trigger-style operation for which Tylaska snap shackles are known. It is designed for easy one-handed release, even under load, while being highly resistant to accidental opening caused by flogging, vibration or shock loads. However, the LT80 is intended specifically for light-duty applications and should not be selected as a substitute for a conventional high-load Tylaska trigger snap shackle where significant working loads are involved.
Available in three colour variants — Red, Green and Black — the LT80 also makes it easy to identify or colour-code different sheets and equipment onboard.
Beyond light-air sailing, the LT80 has numerous practical uses around the boat. Its lightweight, non-metallic and non-marking construction makes it well suited to attaching fenders, securing boom tents, organising sail lockers and other applications requiring a convenient quick-release connection. It can also be used ashore for general-purpose applications where a lightweight, corrosion-free clip is preferred.
