Effortless Sail Handling
The Black Box features a light yet robust oval-shaped retrieval mouth, designed to simplify the dousing process. This optimised shape helps guide the sail cleanly into the snuffer, reducing the risk of tangles and making recovery more controlled—especially when sailing short-handed.
The flexible mesh sleeve allows the sail to move freely during both hoisting and dropping, ensuring smooth, low-resistance operation.
Lightweight & Highly Breathable
Constructed from a specially developed black mesh fabric, the Black Box delivers outstanding airflow even when the sail is fully stowed. This ventilation is key to preventing moisture build-up, significantly reducing the risk of mildew and mould during storage.
The lightweight nature of the mesh also keeps weight aloft to a minimum, improving overall handling and reducing unnecessary load in the rig.
Sizing Guidance (Important)
Choosing the correct snuffer length is critical for reliable performance:

For spinnakers: select a snuffer approximately 500–1000mm shorter than the sail’s luff/leech length

For gennakers: select a snuffer approximately 500–1000mm shorter than the leech length
On gennakers, the luff is typically longer than the leech. This means the lower section of the luff will sit outside the snuffer when fully doused—this is intentional.
Allowing the luff to remain partially exposed helps prevent the clew patch from jamming inside the snuffer mouth, ensuring smoother and more reliable drops.
