Armare – Technical Rope Engineering for Sailing Applications

Throughout its history, Armare has maintained a strong focus on innovation, material development, and manufacturing consistency in rope production. Continuous investment in research and development has allowed Armare to refine fibre selection, construction methods, and finishing processes in response to evolving sailing and rigging requirements. This approach supports the development of technically optimised rope solutions for performance sailing, cruising yachts, and professional marine applications.

Armare’s product development is closely aligned with real-world use cases, with particular attention to load management, stretch characteristics, abrasion resistance, and long-term durability in marine environments.

Armare Ropes Range

Armare offers a structured range of rope categories designed to address specific sailing and rigging requirements across different boat types and disciplines.

One Design Line

The One Design Line is focused on high-performance ropes engineered for specific one-design classes. These ropes are dimensioned and constructed to meet class rules while optimising handling, weight, and stretch control. Armare supplies ropes and complete kits for classes such as Optimist, Laser, 470, and similar fleets, with configurable options to suit individual deck layouts and control systems.

Marine Ropes

The Marine Ropes category covers a wide range of general-purpose and performance-oriented ropes for onboard use. This includes soft braid constructions for halyards, sheets, and control lines, as well as Dyneema®-cored ropes designed for high load capacity with minimal elongation. These ropes are suited to applications where predictable stretch behaviour and long-term dimensional stability are required, including cruising and offshore sailing.

Standing Rigging

Armare’s Standing Rigging range includes high-strength textile rigging cables and associated components designed to reduce weight aloft while maintaining reliable load paths. Dyneema®-based standing rigging solutions are used where reduced stretch, corrosion resistance, and ease of inspection are important. The range includes cables, terminations, and custom assemblies adapted to specific rig geometries and load profiles.

Armare torsion cables

Armare Torsion Cables for Furling Systems

Armare also manufactures torsion cables for furling systems, designed for applications such as Code Zero, gennaker, and asymmetric sail furling. Armare torsion cables are engineered to transmit torque efficiently along the full cable length, ensuring uniform furling even under high luff loads. Construction focuses on controlled fibre alignment and minimal torsional deformation, which is critical for reliable furling performance on larger yachts and high-load sail plans. Armare torsion cables are typically specified where consistent furling behaviour and low rotational lag are required.

Armare Rope Accessories

The Armare Accessories range includes components designed to integrate seamlessly with their rope systems. This includes spliced eyes and spliced loops for load-efficient terminations, as well as selected hardware such as blocks, sheaves, shackles, and turnbuckles to support effective line handling and rig integration.

With more than two centuries of rope-making heritage, Armare represents a technically established manufacturer within the sailing and marine sector. Their portfolio spans one-design racing ropes, general marine lines, textile standing rigging, and torsion cables for furling systems. Armare products are specified where predictable mechanical behaviour, material quality, and application-specific engineering are key considerations for technically minded sailors and yacht owners.
