Karver KRO6 Open Friction Ring
The Karver KRO6 Open Friction Ring is a compact, purpose-built solution for guiding continuous furling lines up to 6mm in diameter. Designed specifically around the needs of modern furling systems, it ensures smooth, controlled line handling from the furler drum back to the cockpit—making it an ideal match for smaller furlers using standard 6mm furling lines.
The innovative open-slot design allows the furling line to be inserted or removed instantly, without the need to re-thread the system. This is particularly beneficial on flying furlers, where quick rigging and de-rigging are essential. Once in place, the optimised internal geometry keeps the line running freely under load while preventing it from escaping during operation.
By maintaining correct alignment into the furler drum and guiding the rope cleanly along stanchions or deck layouts, the KRO6 helps reduce friction and improve overall furling efficiency.
An integrated outer groove allows for the addition of a bungee cord or light control line, which can be used to tension the furling line when not in use. This keeps the line neatly managed along the side decks, reducing clutter and improving safety onboard.
Although originally developed as a furling line guide and retrieval system, the KRO6 is highly versatile. Many sailors also use it for barber haulers, lazy jacks, reefing systems, and halyard deflection—anywhere a lightweight, low-friction solution is required.
