How do I order the correct top down furler for my boat?

You need to make sure the torsional rope length is long enough for your boat. Manufacturers have worked hard on torsional rope diameter vs lengths available, relative to drum size – so by finding the right length cable you should automatically be getting a suitable furling drum – however, you can double check with the Code zero furler sizing guide.

To establish your required torsional rope length:

  • You need to calculate the Max Hoist available on your boat – see point below
  • Then you need to make deductions for the drum, swivel and various attachments to get to an approximate required cable length (see furler drawings in the media tab on the product page for accurate deduction measurements)
  • Then you need to understand the clamping system, as the rope may be wrapped around the thimbles at either end for 300-500mm which means you would have to add that length to the length of cable required. Or on some other systems e.g. Bamar, the rope is cut to length and clamped. (see Installation manuals for details on cutting the correct rope length)
  • You then select the furler with a torsional rope that is slightly longer than your required length
