Clamcleat CL253 Trapeze and Vang Aluminium Rope Cleat for 4–8mm Lines
The Clamcleat CL253 Trapeze and Vang Aluminium Rope Cleat is the sailor’s preferred choice for smooth, reliable rope adjustment on dinghy trapeze systems. Compact and lightweight, it offers a quick, positive lock with easy release — ideal for frequent trimming under load.
This cleat features a built-in pulley for efficient line movement and reduced friction, making it equally effective for vangs, kicking straps, outhauls, and small dinghy forestays. It is also used in windsurfing downhaul systems, canvas structures, and theatre rigging applications where compact, precise control is required.
Each CL253 is supplied with a PTLINK (black rope link) to make rope release faster and easier. For best results, use 16-plait rope and always fit the supplied PTLINK.
Two finishes are available:
- CL253 – Silver stove-enamel finish for a cost-effective, high-quality coating.
- CL253AN – Hard-anodised finish for superior wear resistance in high-load or abrasive conditions.
Helpful hints for setup and maintenance:
- Use 16-plait rope for optimal performance.
- Waxing the rope helps protect against sand ingress and reduces wear.
- Use heat-shrink covers or electrical tape to prevent snagging points.
